Video: Tyra Banks New York Times Interview

June 2, 2008 by Erin Balser

Tyra Banks is on the cover of this week’s New York Times magazine. Here is a brief video excerpt from the interview where Tyra explains the different types of smiles models should have. It’s pretty hilarious and I wonder why Tyra couldn’t explain stuff like this to the ANTM contestant instead of grunting and demonstrating that. That always annoyed me.

She also talks about the first time she as told she should be a model, choosing modeling over college, overcoming several obstacles in modeling, building her brand and more.

She’s far more articulate in this interview than she is on her shows. I wonder if this is because she’s given these answers a thousand times before or if she’s projecting a different type of personality on TV.

Do you think Tyra really need this publicity? Personally, I suppose NY Times should have used their good ‘publishing resources’ – spent on Tyra Banks – to promote those hungry and struggling models on “American Next Top Model.” I mean, what more publicity could a power-house lady with [inter] nationally syndicated shows like Tyra needs. She had it all already.
