Tyra Banks on the Today Show

Tyra Banks made an appearance on the Today show yesterday morning. The look at how Tyra examines skin bleaching in the African-American community and how some people are even putting bleach on their children. Tyra did this as a segment for her talk show and it’s crazy stuff.
Tyra sits in with Today and chats about how Tyra felt when interviewing the boys who get bleached daily, how she tried–and failed–to connect with their mother, how she first discovered this phenomenon and why she decided to put it on her show.
I have to give major kudos to Tyra for recognizing that she is what is socially accepted to be beautiful and that she is lighter skinned. This seems to be a topic she’s researched thoroughly and seems to care quite a bit about.

i think im glad she did this as well.
I had no idea it was this bad. I watched the show and I totally agreed with what tyra said, it’s not just about bleaching to get lighter, there is more to it. I’m black, a bit light and I have never thought of bleaching my skin, it just never came to me like a way to go.
I watched an investigation on TV about bleaching on India and I said “this is the stupidiest thing ever”, how low you self-steem has to be to decide to bleach your skin? I think that’s the most horrible way to let know to the world that you are ashamed of your skin color, I appreciate Tyra’s courage to put this on her show and create common sense among people, I’m half black/half hispanic and I love my skin color, in fact I would love to be darker hehe but I love the way I am, we all should be.
