Tyra Banks & Teyona Anderson at the CW Upfronts

May 21, 2009 by Erin Balser

The CW UpFronts took place earlier today in New York City. The UpFronts are when networks announce their upcoming fall line-up. America’s Next Top Model will return to Wednesdays at 8pm and is being paired with the new drama A Beautiful Life. A Beautiful Life should be a great match for ANTM, as it’s a fictional show about models living in New York City. It stars The OC alum Mischa Barton, supermodel Elle MacPherson and Sara Paxton. If you recall, it’s the show Analeigh Tipton from Cycle 11 was nearly signed for.

I must say, I love Tyra’s new hair color. It’s one of the best looks she’s had in a long time. And Teyona looks really cute.

Are you going to tune in for Cycle 13 of America’s Next Top Model? And are you excited to see A Beautiful Life?

McKey Sullivan: My Life as a CoverGirl Episode 12

May 16, 2009 by Erin Balser

Here’s McKey Sullivan’s final My Life as a CoverGirl. She definitely got better treatment than Whitney did - no wordless final recap. Instead, McKey looks back at the journey she went through being a CoverGirl and prepping for the Tibi/Make-a-Wish fashion show we saw last week.

Congratulations McKey! Now I hope you go off to have a successful high fashion career!

What do you think Teyona’s My Life as a CoverGirl commercials are going to be like?

McKey Sullivan: My Life as a CoverGirl Episode #11

May 7, 2009 by Erin Balser

Last night’s installment of My Life as a CoverGirl finally brought us the Tibi/Make-a-Wish runway show McKey Sullivan has been prepping for all season. It’s a nearly wordless 30-second piece that shows the different looks McKey wore while on the catwalk. Apparently the Make-a-Wish girls got to walk in this show too, but this was a MLAACG that was all about McKey.

McKey looked gorgeous, almost a throwback to the supermodels of the ’90s. I love it. Next week’s segment will probably be a look back at McKey’s entire MLAACG journey. What do you think of McKey’s commercials?

Top Models in Action: Whitney Thompson

April 2, 2009 by Erin Balser

Last night’s Top Model in Action was America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10 winner Whitney Thompson. Whitney has capitalized on being the first plus-sized model to win ANTM and has been working fairly steadily since her win. She’s a Fashion Bug spokesperson and has appeared in campaigns for MetroStyle, JC Penney and more.

I’m not the biggest fan of Whitney but I do believe she can have a long and healthy career as long as she understands her market. Based on the choices she’s made so far, I think she does!

McKey Sullivan: My Life as a CoverGirl Episode #6

April 2, 2009 by Erin Balser

Last night’s My Life as a Covergirl commercial was about McKey Sullivan, who won Cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model, getting ready for a Tibi fashion show. They show her on her go-see for the show and getting fitted for her looks.

I like that they are making McKey’s MLAACG segments a mini-narrative. They’re taking us through the journey that is participating in a fashion show, which is pretty neat. I’m excited to see what other ideas they come up with as McKey continues her CoverGirl journey.

Caridee English & Pretty Wicked News

April 1, 2009 by Erin Balser

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 7 winner Caridee English had her new show Pretty Wicked premiere last night on Oxygen. Did you watch it? I PVRed it and will tune in later this week - so expect a recap soon!

In order to promote the show, Caridee has been doing interviews like crazy. She talked to the Chicago Tribune about how her life has changed since winning ANTM. She gives us a verbal tour of her home in Los Angeles and talks about how different LA is from Fargo, North Dakota.

Caridee chatted with After Elton about Pretty Wicked ad her new campaign for Christian Siriano. She encouraged After Elton’s readers to watch the show, saying its for anyone who has “a love and passion for a girl who makes your jaw drop. And we have ten girls on this show who will make your jaw drop over … and over … and over. You just can’t believe that these girls think that the way they’re living life is actually okay, and the change that they go through is so profound.”

She chatted with A Blog About Things about what it was like to be on the other side of the camera and the judging panel.

Finally, Variety got an early screener of the show - and was not impressed. They called it a “low-rent low-wattage knock-off” of Tyra’s similarly themed show True Beauty and said that Caridee “doesn’t exactly convey inner beauty expertise either. If anything, she represents the vapid, carnivorous nature of reality TV, proving that one show’s winner is another’s loser.”

It can’t be that bad, can it?

Who Should Have Won Past ANTM Cycles

March 25, 2009 by Erin Balser

Let’s face it - not every girl who has won America’s next Top Model deserved it. Some of these poor decisions have become clear over time, some were jaw-dropping from the second Tyra called their name. Regardless of when, how or why, sometimes Tyra got it wrong. Here’s my list of the girls who should have been named America’s Next Top Model - and why.

Jaslene Gonzalez at Valentino Premiere

March 19, 2009 by Erin Balser

Jaslene Gonzalez, winner of Cycle 8 of America’s Next Top Model, attended the premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor. The documentary looks at the life and career of the iconic designer Valentino Garavani. The New York premiere also doubled as a party in his honor at the Museum of Modern Art.

Tons of celebrities and fashion insiders came out for the huge event, including Claire Danes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and tons of models and designers.

I’m really excited to see this film. It’s been well received and it would be interesting to get a peek inside the life of one of the most influential designers ever.

Jaslene looks cute. I love the shoes, jacket and gold dress but it all seems a little bit off together. That being said, it’s one of her better red carpet looks recently.
