September 26, 2008 by Erin Balser

Nigerl Barker and his glowing wife Christen attended the New York premiere of Rachel Getting Married on September 25. Rachel stars Anne Hathaway as a recovering drug addict who is allowed out of rehab to attend her sister’s wedding. It’s a very different role for Anne and one I’m really excited to see!

Christen looks so amazing and Nigel looks so happy and proud. They’re supposedly expecting a girl. I’m really happy for them!

Nigel Barker Front Row at Alexandre Herchcovitch

September 7, 2008 by Erin Balser

Nigel Barker is getting his money’s worth this year at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Yesterday, he attended the Spring/Summer 2009 show of designer Alexandre Herchcovitch. Herchcovitch is a Brazilain designer known for using skulls and bones in his patterns–something I have a hard time seeing Nigel in!

Nigel keeps mixing up his suits, opting for black-on-black velvet look. He shared the front row with stylist Sarah Gore Reeves.

What do you think of Nigel’s look? Yay or nay?

Nigel was also spotted at the Verrier show the same day.

Whitney Thompson Interviewed by Celebs Gone Good

"A Sealed Fate" Exhibition Opening

Celebs Gone Good caught up with Cycle 10 winner Whitney Thompson at the premier of Nigel Barker’s photography exhibit, “A Sealed Fate.” Whitney mentions that she recently adopted a puppy from The Humane Society–and named it Fiona!

She talks to them about supporting animal rights, her new puppy, being ANTM’s first plus-sized model, and more.

“I mean it’s obviously incredibly messed up what’s going on in the world, and I obviously don’t support it; and I think it’s so great that Nigel got involved (he’s such a great guy). So I thought, you know, I would support him,” Whitney said, when asked why she attended the show. “And I absolutely care about animal rights. I love The Humane Society; I just got a puppy from them. Her name’s Fiona. And so you know, whatever I can do.”

Other than the puppy, there’s nothing new or exciting in the interview. She brings up her 13-year-old cousin again, and while I appreciate the sentiment behind the story, I’m sick of hearing about it.

Jaslene Gonzalez at “A Sealed Fate” Opening

Jaslene Gonzalez was yet another Top Model winner who attended Nigel Barker’s “A Sealed Fate” exhibit.

I love when Jaslene straightens her hair like this. I think she looks cute, but the material that her pants is made of looks kinda cheap. Or is that just me?

What do you think of Jaslene’s outfit? Yay or nay?

Is it just me or does Whitney look like she’s made of plastic in this picture?

A Sealed Fate showcases photographs Nigel took in Canada of baby seals. He did so to raise awareness about the annual seal hunt there. The show runs until tomorrow.

Nigel Barker Interviewed By Gothamist

Nigel Barker sat down with NYC blog Gothamist to chat about his family and how it’s growing; his new exhibit, “A Sealed Fate”; and living in New York.

Nigel is involved with the Humane Society and feels very passionately about the annual seal hunt that occurs here in Canada.

However, the exhibit doesn’t have graphic photographs of the hunt itself, but rather:

“The exhibit is a celebration of their lives, and what they are, and their transformation during their short life,” Nigel says. “I wanted to bring a spotlight to show people what they look like, right up until they die, so people realize they are still beautiful.”

I think it’s an interesting move that Nigel didn’t automatically go for the gross-out factor. Those can be more emotionally challenging, but I guess that doesn’t faze a professional photographer! I hope the photos are put online at some point–I’d love to see them.

The exhibit is at 401 Projects July 25-27. Nigel is giving guided tours himself, so be sure to take advantage of that! You can read the rest of the Gothamist interview here.
