Rumor: Tyra Banks to Pose as Michelle Obama for Harper’s Bazaar

According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Tyra Banks will pose as presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle, for the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Their source claims that this stunt will make the cover.

“It’s a full makeover,” their source says. “You know how Tyra likes to do that stuff. And she’ll get a lot of press off it.”

I think that if this shoot is done right, it will be a smart look at the presidential campaign and the role Michelle Obama plays in shaping her husband’s campaign. But it has the potential to be campy and over-the-top.

I keep thinking of Lindsay Lohan’s take on Marilyn Monroe for New York magazine and Jessica Simpson’s recreation of Virna Lisi’s Esquire’s cover. Both were more campy than classy.

Do you think Tyra and Harper’s have what it takes to pull this off? I think they do, and I’m excited to see the results. That is, if this rumor is even true–Tyra’s rep refused to comment for Page Six.
