Oxygen Acquires Cable Rights to ANTM

October 1, 2008 by Erin Balser

Oxygen announced this week that they acquired the “exclusive cable rights” to America’s Next Top Model This means they now have the rights to all the reruns of past, present and future cycles.

The CW Network's Upfront

“The acquisition of this franchise will be a great fit for Oxygen’s slate of original programming and introduce the show to an untapped demographically desirable cable audience,” said Scott Koondel, Executive Vice President of Off-Network, Cable and Interactive Media for CBS Television Distribution, in a press release.

Oxygen is hoping that this acquisition makes a great complement to The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency as they attempt to target “generation O” and become the cable destination for young women.

I only hope that Oxygen treats ANTM the same way VH1 and MTV does–with loads and loads of lazy afternoon marathons! To me, this doesn’t seem like a great fit. But it all depends on Oxygen’s rebranding and vision.
