Karrine vs. Tyra
Karrine Steffans is armed and ready to go head-to-head with Tyra Banks on Tyra’s talk show on Monday. Looks like there’s quite a bit of drama stirring between the two, ever since Steffans was interviewed by Tyra.
Vibe has the details:
As reported in the New York Daily News on Sept. 20, Steffans says that she and Banks are not that different. Steffans told John Salley and Ananda Lewis, on their L.A. radio show, “I heard they call Tyra ‘Hollywood Hop” for the many men in Hollywood who have bedded Tyra and moved on.”
Steffan’s remarks on Salley’s show was round two of the cat fight between she and Banks, and came after being interviewed for the Tyra Banks Show. Steffans, who is now reportedly dating Bill Maher, stated that Banks dissed her during the interview, and that she was ready to pull her wig off.
Ha! Must See TV right there.

She talks all this shit about sister hood and being honest but when a sister does it she dislikes her for it. Bringing Karrine on her show to “diss” her was not only childish but shady as hell!
I dont care what her motives were, for writing this book the whole point is that it was the truth and the truth is what it is. If these artist didnt do it than there would be no book to write but the point is that they did do it and now they shall lay in their own beds.
An another thing about Tyra…if she’s so much for sisterhood and women empowerment than why is she defending these assholes for what they did. Freinds or not…I would never praise my male freinds for degrading and disrespecting women.
Im glad Karrine told the truth! After hearing her story I no longer want to be a video model. I didnt really know anything about the world until now and now that I do I dont want any part in it.
Karrine opened up a flood gate to an awakening tragedy in hiphop…and for that I thank her! She flipped the script on all of them crooked ass bastards and got the last laugh all the way to the bank! Now hate on that Tyra!

I had to extend my lunch because the show was very interesting. I didn’t like the idea that Tyra was bashing Karrine in a way that was on the low. I don’t agree to what happened in the book whatsoever, but if she is telling the truth, that is what it is. This would be no different from a typical woman sleeping with someone’s man. These men are making money exploiting woman in videos, then why can’t she make money telling all. Hoping it is the truth, she is telling what she went through. She is not perfect and it was her choice to do the things that she did. Who is the judge. Not Tyra, not nobody.

Tyra Banks always talks about “sisterhood” on her shows, yet when a woman is names names of men who expolited her and cheated on their wives in her tell all book, Tyra attacks the writer and questions her motives! It is very well known in the hip hop video world how these men ( and I use that word very lightly) exploit and degrade the young video girls. Why didn’t Ms. Banks speak out on how Karrine’s book will help turn a number of young women considering that profession away? Whether these men in Hip Hop are friends of Ms. Banks or not, if they degrade and use women, how can she be supportive of them? It was interesting how on the same show, when interviewing Dennis Rodman, she had no negative reaction or comment about the fact that Rodman KNOWINGLY had sex with a married woman! No frowns of disgust like she had for Karrine. She also had no reaction to Rodman discussing intimate stories about Madonna and Carmen Electra in his book. Sisterhood, what a joke!I’ve always questioned Ms. Banks ability to properly advise young women, seeing she’s only a model with a high school education. Her interviewing of Karrine truly showed how ill prepared she is (and how biased) when it comes to interviewing guests she doesn’t agree with or like.Celebrities thinking they’re athorities on subjects that are waay beyond their very limited “Hollywood” scope is always quite the joke!

I totally agree with both of you guys! Tyra was so out of line to get Karrine on her show to basically humiliate and degrade her. Tyra is not perfect so why is she judging Karrine? I had total respect for Tyra until she did this to Karrine. I dont agree with many of the things in her book but it is the truth and it’s about time someone spoke out about rappers exploiting women.

I watched the show and I don’t really see what all the hoopla is about. I don’t think that Tyra was hating. On some point I actually agree with her. Karrine is very far from stupid, and I think she knew exactly what she was doing. And the thing is if you are not ashamed as she says that she is not and all about being honest then be completely honest. Just come out and say that I wrote this book for whatever reasons and I name dropped because I wanted people to know and also because I knew it would help sell the book. Stop acting like money didn’t play any part in the name dropping. Also I have heard more than one interview with this woman and it appears that when she is telling her side of the story alone she is good but when in the presence of the other some of the other people she was a little shaky. And as far as these women being disrespected people only do what you allow them to do to you there comes a time when you have to make a decision about what you are or are not willing to do. I am so tired of people acting like she didn’t know what she was doing. She very clearly knew what she was doing when she was out there sleeping with these men and taking there money and traveling and prostituting herself to support her lifestyle and drug habit. As for the people in the book I am quite sure that they have there own demons to deal with. I am glad that she has moved on and hope that she is doing positive things and is growing as a person and an a parent. The bottom line is KARMA IS A B**CH, AND WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND EVENTUALLY YOU GET BACK WHAT YOU PUT OUT THERE WHETHER IT TAKES 10 MONTHS OR 50 YEARS. I live here in La La Land ( aka “Hollyood”) and know a female director as well as male video directors in Hip Hop. Both confirmed that what Karrine spoke about goes on “all the time”. And they even went further and said it oes even further than what she discussed in her book. I knew these types of things were going on years ago, in the early days of Rap and hip hop when a friend of mine was featured in a video, she was not one of the expolited ones due to the fact she is too strong and secure and would walk off a set if anything of that nature was even proposed to her. Also, she was not in need of money or desiring noteriety, she jsut thought it would be something fun to do. But she saw others being taken advantage of.Easy for some to say that these YOUNG women knew what they were doing when they slept with these young men and accepted money from them. Does that that excuses these guys from having any morals and behaving properly?! Does that make it OK to take advantage of situations when ever theres an opportunity to do so…and just because you can?They do have the ability to just to do their work and act like REAL men…I would like to think that these young men are not animals who cannot control themselves! As a previous writer said, would they want their sisters or mothers being treated in the manner they are treating these women? Of course not! Some of these young women have had NO positive role models in their family to guide them and some have been products of abuse and made bad choices based on that.Others seek work in the entertainment world exclusively to validate themselves and feel better about themselves by getting attention..and/or to (try)to make a lot of money.
And again, lets not excuse these men (again men being used Very lightly by this writer!) It’s a sad state of the nation when “Hollywood” and being an entertainer of some sort is looked on as being the ultimate goal to achieve.Please! What a joke! I hope these women strive for something much larger than perpetuating sterotypes of Black women…when women can say NO I won’t shake my ass for the world on camera, I’d rather work at McDonalds and than do that…only then will then these men HAVE TO write these scripts differently. Or even Better , how about having more young black women going to school and learning how to PRODUCE and WRITE these videos in a positive manner rather than just letting these guys ( i feel much better using the word guys rather than men:-) dictate when and how high to jump! Like a woman from Essence magazine recently said in response to a hip hop artist’s silly comment about sex selling in videos so thats ok and thats why they do it and if you don’t like it don’t watch it…this intelligent woman’s response was “Crack sells too, does that make it good”
If enough women will Flip the script on these guys in hip hop and say NO, only then will change have to take place and only positive representations of Black women will be shown. It’s up to the women to make the change because as long as these guys can make money off these women…they will!

I do understand what everyone has written on this board but I did see the interview and I just felt like Tyra wanted her to admit she had written the book for her own purposes, call it what it is, she could have still written the same book without putting names in it, if she truly was just telling her story,then to dedicate the book to her son was sad, true, the men in the book are no better but this woman has a child and she is sittin up there glad to be a HO, and I’m not the one to judge, but I will pray for her.

I think Tyra did the same thing I would have done. 1st of all if you cant see through what Karrine is trying to do, then your not so smart. She is putting herself out there as a hoe. I have her book, and read it. I came to the conclusion that she only wants fame, and she is still the hoe she claim she WAS! 2nd, Tyra had every right to bash her , the people lives that Karrine is ruining are Tyra’s friends. DONT YOU HAVE FREINDS! DONT YOU DEFEND THEM! 3rd yea tyra talks about her sisterhood, but who says Karrine is IN her sisterhood. Her sister hood might be people that she respect and people that respect themselves. 4th I believe that if you cant see through Karrine then thats too d@*$ bad, because we all knew that stuff like that happened, well i did, but for her to come out and tell on everyone and not expect some bashing then she was just STUPID. No need to resort to name calling because someone expresses opinions that are different than yours.If my friends did something that I felt was inappropriate towards a woman… NO, I would not defend them. Like Karrine said, if these guys didn’t like what she said, they shouldn’t have done it. Bottom line, her book was a success ( ie top best seller NY Times list and Washington Post). I’m glad she named names! These guys shouldn’t take advantage of young women just because they can. Now maybe they’ll think about what they’re doing before they do it next time. So far as Tyra is concerned, she still did not show unbiased reporting ,as evidenced by her NON reaction to Rodman’s tell all book interview which immediately follow Karrines.
Enough said on that subject, it’s getting boring now. I’m now officially off of this blog.

In no form or fashion was Tyra hating on “ChickenHead”, I mean SuperHead. Karrine is so transparent. She seems to have some kind of mental problem because most of the men she slept with she said she LOVED them. When she became financially challenged, she decides to write a tell all book. This is all about money. Tyra simply asked questions viewers wanted to know.

I understand what everyone is saying. I haven’t read the book but it is on my to do list. I just want to say that both parties are wrong. First of all Karrine (superhead)yea she said that she wrote it to help younger out, but that is not the only reason. I have read many interviews that she has done since the book has been published and each town she sounds fake. She sounds like she’s just doind it to get attention. It is a lot of things that SUperhead has done that isn’t right. Don’t get me wrong, I know that those things go on on the video world, but she could have expressed in a different way. Tyra shouldn’t have attacked her like that. She asked her to come to show and she came so she should have listen to what she had to say. Just because it is her show, that doesn’t mean that she can disrespect her national TV. She has her talk show and does her thing, now let superhead do her thing even if it its’t right, or even if it stepped in Tyra toes.

I was very upset with the trya show when Trya totally attack superhead for being a ho and then praised chingy and dennis rodman for treating women like crap. Yes, superhead was aho, but so are rodman and chingy. She had the right to write that book and name names, because the rappers that slept with her did not want anyone to find out, they should not have done it in the first place. And though there are alot of women who need to stop hoeing around, alot of men need to do the same thing too. Trya praising the man hoes has set the womens movement back 50 years

Wow! I watched the show and I agree with what Donna said. How can you give prasie to the men and not the woman. Everyone seems to be hung up on the reason why Karrine wrote the book. Who cares why she wrote the book the point is if it can reach someone in a positive light;If someone can learn from what she went through then it served a point. It kills me that people are so quick to condem her for what she did and not the man who did it with her. Ppl gettting mad b/c she named names so damn what. Everything in the dark comes to light. Thing is most of the men she named in her are 9 times out of 10 doing the something to someother women.

OK Judith what interview where you watching that she praised rodman and chingy. Rodman said that he treats woman how they want to be treated. So if they are acting like a ho that is how he treats them. And Chingy said that he didn’t want a woman who was willing sleep her way up to meeting him. And as far as the woman that was married that Dennis slept with he said that her husband was there and was fine with it.

Trya was jsut being a bitch. She was jealous or just being a hater. Regardless of the reason why Karrine wrote the book it was a good book, and it made me not want to be a video girl.Im 17 years old and Tyra always talks about helping young teenage girls…so Tyra peep game, Karrine may have wanted money (which is why she dropped names) but I think she also had good motives too. Shit the artists shouldn’t have done it. The should’ve known one day somebody was gon say somethin they just dumb. Thats how I see it. I really used to look up to Tyra too. I watch her talk show, America’s next top model, and I have her book. But she can kick rocks for all I care because I hate fake females lookin for a cat fight.

Tyra just says wat she thinks! Karrine cant expect to go on shoes and people be like “good on you, girl!” Tyra gives interesting interviews instead of being fake and if she doesnt agree with the interviewee, she says so! The audience can make up their own mind.
Tyra ,made the point about the front cover of the book, and how Karrine’s son would see it and be like “that’s my mom”, if Karrine wanted to be a bit classier, she could have not put her big photo on the front, and done it how the book confessions of an ex call girl is!But then again, Karrine just wants more and more fame…

that’s fair to say mocha but however, just because the oppotunity to treat someone like a dog arises, that still does not make it right. yes women need to stand up for themselve and finally say they will not act like a hoe to get a man, but a man also need to treat women in a respectful manner. so what if the husband said it was okay, it still was not right, or cute. It sadden me that trya found it funny and giggle at all the crappy things rodman did to women. Okay to the person that thought it was disrespectful of Karrine to dedicate the book to her son…it was for a reason. She wasnt dedicating the things she did…if you actually read the book she dedicated it to him because he was the only one there for her. Through all the rain and pain he was the only one that told her “I love you ” and actually meant it, so she was thanking him for waking her up and inspiring her to get out of her slump.
As far as Karrine sleeping with Chris Webber while Tyra was dating him…who in Hollywood hasnt, I know about 2 girls that have hooked up with him and Tyra should know better because thats reality for these basketball players and athletes. THEY CHEAT! An why is she mad at Karrine for sleeping with him? She should be mad at him not her, they have no ties to one another. If anything Karrine did her a favor by showing Tyra that her man was no good.
Also as far as Karrines motives for writing the book…it doesnt matter, it was the truth and like I said before if these men didnt do what they did there would be no book to write. An like a lot of the ladies said up top…Tyra acted totally different when she questioned Rodman and Chingy on there sexcapades. Fake…I cant stand Tyra Banks. I didnt even like the way she came at Naomi. If she was that hurt and concerned she would have sat her down years ago with the cameras off and since she didnt that tells me she’s fake and she cares about what other people think and she is too old and too succesful to be feeling that way. As far as Karrine lieing, uh that would be a negative. Irv Gotti himself who was also in the book gave her props for writing it and flipping the script on all of them. An P.diddy who was angered by the book is fake as well because Usher already put him on blast for taking him to his first Orgy when he was only 13. Now if this asshole can take a 13 yr old boy to an orgy god knows what and how bad he exploits women. Look at R.Kelly for years and years he slept with underage girls and no one said anything. An I have proof that juvenile and Lil wayne have slept with 16 and 17 yr olds. An the point is finally someone has spoke out about it TRUTHFULLY and willingly. these kinds of acts and perversions are ruining hiphop and the true message of the art form. We’re creating our own stereotypes and disrespecting ourselves for the world to see. Women like Karrine are breaking and exposing those stereotypes for what they really are.

I was very troubled by the show. I am upset that Tyra would bash another woman on her show for sleeping with Celebrities, then praise a former NBA star (Dennis Rodman) for his escapades with Married women. He also mentioned that he is currently not faithful to his wife…and Tyra laughed!!
But then you have a woman who admits the people she has slept with and she is given a harsher interview. The sad thing is that you cna understand why Karrine Steffans did the things she did. She was looking to fill a void she cannot fill herself. No one can, but God. She was trying to fill the loss of her mother and father’s love through the affection of other men. She tried to fill the void of her lost innocence by giving men what they want so they don’t have to take it. Then to fill the void of feeling like a “ho” she took money to at least believe she got something out of the deal. It may sound dumb us but it is not our lives. Tyra was saying that she did it for the money -and I say so what if she did! If she was living in a car at one point, and didn’t have a lot of money then why not?!
To me Tyra let down one of her sister’s in need, instead dissin her and voicing that she didn’t agree with the lifestyle she could have gave her the support to come out of it. But all Tyra did was turn her nose up at her sister, who she may have been able to help. Sometimes people do things we don’t like or agree with, but that is our opportunity to help them see a better way. Its not time to push them away and be disgusted in them, that is the time where we can show our love for one another the most.

I just got finish reading Ms.SUPERHEAD book and i actually feel for her, but at the same time. She is a grown ass woman, she let these men do this to her!!!. I am a young girl at the age of 18 and i’m currently in Las Vegas prostituting for a PIMP right now. Yes, he has hit me,spit me,and even made me drink his pee. But still i stay, I’m not saying he has the right to doing this to me, but at the same time I OBVIOUSLY want it because i’m still here. And that goes for Karrine, She is a grown woman.You also have to look at a persons childhood the way they grew up,and from reading her story i believe she just wanted to be love and through sex w/ these various men she felt that missing piece…..Just like me, I grew up w/ no father, in and out of group homes,etc. Basically i wanted love and through that i found sex w/ men and LOVE for money to give me my missing piece,and w/ my PIMP i feel thr mose money give him the more he loves me. So a person has to wanna stop and stop letting these people do this to them. I was surprised by Tyra’s strong stance against Karrine’s decision to DROP names in the book too. But my concern isn’t for Tyra, Karrine or even the guys Karrine did everything freaky with. It makes me sick that these so-called wives in the hip-hop world tolerate their men sleeping with all these video girls & disrepecting women in the videos. Celebrities are phony and will do anything to further their careers. Tyra bashed Karrine because she of her own insercurities and i know that she planned on putting her on spot but siding with the guys was a huge mistake. Karrine was interested in only furthering her career by drawing attention to her story and she let the world know in her book that she dont care what anyone think…especally females. So doing something as grimy as exploiting herself and others should come naturally to her.

All i have to say is I am totally embarassed..I am from st.thomas and she put us on the map, un willingly. First of all Karrine made excuses for her actions like a real sociopath. How can you sit there and say what you did and try to dedicate it to your son?. Why does he have to know how big of a whore his mother was?. My God, imagine this child when he fianlly learns to read and enters the library at his school to see his mother on the cover and actually read the book. Also, I want to know what part of the island she grew up on. Where in St.Thomas did you grow up and they didnt have running water and a screen door? Bitch please! Karrine, on the one hand you talk about trying to educate and enlighten up and coming women about the pitfalls of this industry, which is romanticized, glamorized, made to appear Larger-Than-Life and so forth. So why would you allow yourself to become pregnant with a once married about to be divorced singer. You are contributing to the demise of another woman’s marriage, but yet your supposed to be teaching other girls right from wrong? It makes you look like a sham and a hypocrite. Karrine, please get it right. I agree with you that when you peel back the layers of the Hip Hop Industry, it is extremely dangerous, but don’t offset that with the same behavior you condemn by getting down and around with another married man. You make yourself look crazy. I don’t hate you. In fact, I wish you well, but if you are really trying to make a change, then girlfriend, you are off to one sloppy start.

Give it a rest, Karrine didn’t do anything different than Paris Hilton, or any other “white” girl in the biz. I’ve been in the entertainment industry for 25 years, since I was 13 years old. Wether they say it or not, you can’t name one woman in the entertainment industry who haven’t been across the famed “couch of Hollywood”, or some refer to it as the “casting couch”. Wether a female choose to speak up or not it happens and that’s the life of the business. I agree that everyone is hating on Karrine cause she flip the script on all the jerks that was trying to steal a cookie out of the jar without getting caught. Life is about choices we all make good ones and we all make bad ones. It’s everyone’s God given right to be stupid enough to keep making bad ones and get caught up, as it is to be smart and wise enough to know that you’ve done something stupid, don’t do it again and move on. So what Karrine did is no different than what all the people she ratted out did, it’s just that she saw monetary gain in spilling the beans, while they saw monetary gain in keeping it all quiet.

I did not see the interview but from what I am hearing I agree w/ alot of you by saying Tyra may have had her own reasons for coming @ Karrine the way she did and honestly Karrine knew exactly what she was doing @ the time it was being done. Yes men do not have the right to take advantage of a woman but if that woman allows it to happen then that is her own fault. Karrine knew what she was doing completely and she needs to come to grips why people are coming at her the way that they do.

I would like to say that I saw Tyra’s interview with the Hoe. I think Tyra was right about everything she said an was asking. Superhead did not just come from a rap song or a nickname that is what she was known for giving from the jump. Come on now what kind of mother could justify the things she has done . An what about her son having to live with the fact that his mom was an still is a whore. I am trying to understand how do a Hoe get paid twice for services rendered. She already got money from the dudes for freaking them an now she is making a living off of them for writing about their experiences in a book. She desrves all the ridicule she gets. Did she think about the families she would be hurting in the process or their children no she didn’t. She was completely motivated by money and greed. Karrine vs. Tyra. Hmmm…let’s compare, shall we?
Tyra Banks, age 33, former model who spends every summer helping young girls developconfidence and self-esteem through her T-Zone camp, and has consistently called the modeling world on the carpet for glorifying ultra-thinness; a compassionate woman who is also not afraid to ask the hard questions of those she interviews (including Ms. Steffans); a young lady who was blessed to have a loving mother who, thankfully, refused to let the modeling industry lead her daughter to starve herself, and who raised her to have dignity and self-respect; a woman that is living proof that models DO have brains and intelligence, and who has demonstrated that through having her own production company; who succeeded in entertainment the RIGHT way - through hard work rather than through sleeping around (contrary to some of the opinions expressed, everybody in Hollywood ISN’T sleeping with everybody to get ahead!).
Karrine Steffans, age 29, former video model who, according to her, has slept with half the rap industry and did ONE legitimate movie; a woman who was horribly abused by her mother (I cried reading that part of her book; that mother of hers is going to seriously meet her doom on the Day of Judgment!); who says she has ‘changed’ her ways, yet still dresses provocatively and was even in a recent porn flick.
I have read Steffans’ first book, and I have to admit that at first I truly felt sympathy and compassion for her having a demon of a mother who destroyed her daughter’s sense of self-worth with her abuse towards her. I was incensed by her mother not believing her when she was raped. It made me truly grateful for the wonderful mother I have, who I KNOW would have probably ended up in prison for the damage she would have inflicted on any sorry wretch who did that to me.
I also appreciated her exposure of the underworld of hip-hop, and the sexual exploitation going on behind and on the scenes (although one can hardly be surprised at her ‘revelations’). Certainly young girls need to know that the majority (but not all) of these rappers look at women as nothing more than an easy lay, and that sleeping with these men is casting pearls before swine. They need help in finding more positive role models to be inspired by.
On the other hand, Steffans is not the only one who has had a horrible childhood. There are many others who have had stories of abuse just as bad - or worse - than their own. She is also not the only one who made wrong choices and looked for love in all the wrong places. The problem I have with Steffans (especially after hearing what she said about Tyra), is that she claims to have changed her ways, but her behavior says otherwise. When she still dresses provocatively, and has even been in a porn flick recently, that is not evidence of a changed person. I suspect that the only change she has made is that she has decided to market her promiscuous lifestyle more effectively through books, TV and radio interviews, etc. One cannot convince me that making money was not one of her main motivations for all that she’s doing now. And just because she supposedly doesn’t expose her son to all her escapades doesn’t make it okay. No child deserves parents like that!
I do agree with some of the posters, however, that these men are just as wrong as she is for their sleeping around. They are a disgrace to the MILLIONS of good Black men like my husband who may never have books written about them, who are loving and faithful to their wives and are good fathers to their children, who are in college or working a job trying to support their families, who would never dream of disrespecting women in any way. They make Black men look like little more than dogs-in-heat, and I’m sick of it! They need to be exposed because they are fleecing our communities of our hard-earned dollars promoting filth and perversion in their videos.
I don’t believe any of what she’s saying about Tyra. Those men she slept with that she claims told her that mess are LYING; they WISH they had the privilege! Furthermore, she’s probably jealous of her legitimate, hard-earned success, and her decent reputation. She’s trying to destroy Tyra, but it won’t work! It’s Tyra’s show, and she has the right to ask Steffans what she wants to. If Steffans didn’t like how she was being treated, she could have exited stage left. No one made her stay!

Tyra is a condescending B****! She’s so fake, the only tragic pain she’s ever notibly experienced is when Namoi Cambell tried to kick her.*ss. She’s always had her mom to protect her and watch out for her from the bad things in this industry, girls like me and Karrine that never had mothers or gaurdians look out for us were thrown into this world alone so we had to learn from our own mistakes. Karrine is human she’s learning just like every other teen and twenty something yr old out here in life. Tyras just pathetic and one of the biggest hypocrites in the buisness. She knows nothing about journalism or real life problems. Tyra giving advice on class is like Brittany Spears giving advice on ettiquette. its a joke and so is she!
