I bet the drug was taclonex. I read that it was a new drug she was using and I know my mom used this new ointment called taclonex and it worked wonders.

Wikipedia said she uses Raptiva. I have psoriasis too and use Enbrel. It works well, but takes FOREVER for it to finally clear from your lower legs. I was on Prednisone once, that was bad, I am still weaning off it, it zaps your energy, gives you mood swings, and osteoporosis, also it can make it come back worse! That’s why I had to get off it slowly. It can also give you “moon face”. I think next time I see my derm I’m gonna ask about Raptiva though.

Just wanted to thank Tara for replying and sharing other meds to help with
this awful Psoriasis. I will take your advice and try your recommendations.
Do you need prescriptions for Enbrel and Raptiva? and Sharon also replyed and mentioned Taelonex. Do you have any knowledge or info on Taelonex?
Thankyou again Tara,
very grateful, Victoria

enbrel, raptiva, taclonex are all good, but they are expensive and may not even work. iam 23 years old and i have been suffering with this disease for 6 years. But now my skin is getting better and clearing up using herbal remedies..trust me on this one..after years of looking up for something that would help me, i stumbled on a website about EDGAR CAYCE, a clairvoyant who foresees the future and common cures for diseases like psoriasis..anywayz to make it short.. a man named John o. a. Pagano followed Cayce’s readings and wrote a book called HEALING PSORIASIS: The Natural Alternative..in his book, he states that the problem is not on the outside, but inside the body… if you want to know more like up him up and his book or about EDGAR CAYCE..trust me….this works. its cheaper and healthier than using steroid-filled medicine.

Hey Victoria,
So glad my message helped you! Yes, you do need a Rx for Enbrel and Raptiva, and health insurance, as they are costly, but much safer, since they are biologics, and not synthetic drugs, so technically, they are substances already in your body, for example Enbrel is a TNF blocker, which people with psoriasis (and arthritis) don’t have enough of, or use efficiently.
As for Marcus’ comment. Yes, I agree, natural remedies help (I take daily flaxseed oil and eat one-half of all my meals as fruits or veggies, as well as getting regular exercise and sunlight), but sometimes they are not enough alone. I also quit smoking and do yoga for stress reduction.
I do believe however, biologics are better, than corticosteroids applied to the skin as they can still permeate into your body.
No matter what, always keep positive, because as we’ve all seen it can get better, it just takes time! I read once, “You didn’t get psoriasis overnight, so don’t expect it to go away overnight”. Take care you all!

CariDee takes RAPTIVA! I saw her at a patient forum in Toronto, Canada and she talked about it. She tried taking Enbrel first but that didn’t work for her and it took really long to see results. You need prescriptions for both Raptiva and Enbrel, but not all dermatologists prescribe these type of drugs as they prefer to do Botox and cosmetic dermatology where they make more money and therefore don’t keep up on the developments in the medical field of psoriasis. So, they dont’ feel comfortable prescribing these drugs. So, ask around till you find a dermatologist who will prescribe them.

Wow, it’s great to see so much “buzz” about psoriasis. I am 36 and have had it since I was around 9 or 10.
We all would love to find that one thing that works for us. Trust me I have tried many “wonder” treatments and spent more money than I care to mention trying to find my own “peace of mind” with psoriasis.
I am finding that mine is slowly getting worse with age. I’ve always considered myself lucky because the patches I do have I can cover with clothing other than my knees and elbows. As of late, this is becoming more and more not the case. Up until about 10 years ago, I could still visit the beach too (boy I miss going to the beach). Now I have it on my stomach, back, thighs, etc. etc. and long story short, I don’t feel comfortable at the beach any more.
I lost 72 lbs a little while back and all I wanted to do was hit the beach again. I went from 235 to 163 (size 40 waist to a 32).
I put some of it back on and I am in the process of loosing it again. The dark cloud however is still there. The dark cloud of knowing that even though I have lost the weight and feel fantastic about it; I still have to cover my psoriasis.
Fortunately, all the wonderful women I have dated throughout my life have never had an issue with me having psoriasis. This doesn’t change the fact that it still is something that has to be discussed at some point. I am sure I am not alone is saying it would be wonderful not to fear that conversation. For those of you that would prefer finding a mate that understands and has psoriasis themselves, there is now a psoriasis singles website too. I don’t recall the name of it at the moment, but I found it the other day and joined myself.
By the length of my reply, I am sure it is easy to see how much this affects me physically, emotionally, and mentally.
I see all these “make over” shows, and I always think to myself, “I wish they would have a psoriasis makeover show. A show where a panel of doctors would stop at nothing until the individual was clear or had minimal patches left. Even if it took a trip to the Hot Spring Sivas Kangal in TURKEY. What ever it took to clear up the psoriasis as much as possible and make the person look and feel fantastic.
For that matter, I just thought of another great reality show. I am single, never been married or engaged, and it would be awesome to have a bachelor type show where the bachelor has psoriasis and/or the participants on the show. Think of all the twists a show like this could have in it.
I am currently in the process of looking for a new job, and if anyone has a current position or would like to create a capacity in which I can help the fight against psoriasis and/or make my idea for a psoriasis makeover and/or bachelor show a reality, please contact me. I would love nothing more than to be a participant in the show myself, but I would also love to help others find their own happiness.
Thank you to everyone who has made this a great place for psoriasis information. Thank you SOOOOOOOOO much to Tyra for her help here and to CariDee for bringing up “the heartbreak of psoriasis” and creating such a buzz about this disease.
Put a fork in me…………
I am done :-)
