Exclusive Nigel Barker Interview Backstage at Fashion Week

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing America’s Next Top Model Judge and fashion photographer Nigel Barker at Fashion Week.  Here’s a brief rundown of what we chatted about. 

I asked Nigel about Fashion Week and which shows were his favorite.  He said he had been to over 30 shows and one that stood out in his mind was The Blonds which had crystal bustiers.

When I asked him about his background in Fashion and he mentioned that he started as a model on a TV show similar to ANTM  in 1989.  He didn’t win but came in the top 3.  He modeled for almost 10 years after that and then when the 1990s and heroin chic was in he decided to quit modeling and work on his photography.  Since then he’s worked as a fashion photographer based out of his studio in the meat packing district of New York.

When I asked for spoilers for Cycle 10 of ANTM Nigel mentioned that Twiggy’s replacement Paulina Porizkova is similar to Janice Dickinson.  He says it’s a new exciting vibe in the judging panel which is really refreshing.  Also the entire season is filmed in New York City which has an exciting gritty background.

When I asked for some tips and advice for wannabe models Nigel said that you should really take a look at who you are and believe in yourself.  Don’t wait for other people to tell you you can do it.  If you need that validation then you probably shouldn’t be a model.
