Tyra Banks, Toccara Jones at BET Awards

June 29, 2009 by Erin Balser

Tyra Banks stepped out in an androgynous look at the BET Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles last night. Her look was no doubt inspired by Michael Jackson, as many stars payed tribute to the musical icon through their fashion choices, thoughtful words and musical performances.

I think this look is quite a risk for Tyra, but she definitely pulls it off. It’s once of her better red carpet looks in a while.

Tyra Banks

The BET Awards were started in 2001 to honor African American achievements in music, acting, sports and entertainment. In its eight years, it has turned into one of the largest and most exciting awards shows of the year. Last night’s show was a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Tyra and Michael have a history together - she appeared in his 1991 music video for Black or White. You can watch the video here, Tyra makes an appearance at 5:30 as one of the morphing heads.

Toccara Jones, who is a presenter for BET and competed on Cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model walked the red carpet in a sexy black jumpsuit.

Toccara Jones

I think the jumpsuit is great, but I’m not a fan of her updo. What do you think?

I think it’s interesting that both Tyra and Toccara wore pant ensembles for their red carpet appearances. Red carpet fashion has certainly changed over the years and I appreciate the risks stars have been taking!

ANTM & Tyra Banks Nominated for Tubey Awards

June 28, 2009 by Erin Balser

Tyra Banks Teyona AndersonEvery year, Television Without Pity gives out awards honoring the latest, greatest and outright weirdest in the past year on television. With categories like “Best American Accent by a Non-American” and “Most Ludicrous Plotline”, it’s a fun way to look back at the highs and lows we watched on the tube.

This year, Tyra Banks is nominated for “Worst Crime Against Fashion” for all her outfits at panel. She’s got some stiff competition, as she’s up against Betty’s entire wardrobe from Ugly Betty; Leslie Knope’s masculine buisness suit and haircut for the awards banquet from the season finale of Parks & Recreation; all of the Dharma jumpsuits we see on Lost; Kenley’s hip-hop outfit for Leanne on Project Runway; Ben’s flashback hair in the “Dead is Dead” episode from Lost; Howard’s eyepatch on The Big Bang Theory; Alex’s entire first-season wardrobe, hair and makeup on Ashes to Ashes; Lois Lane’s Stiletto outfit on Smallville; Claire’s wig on Heroes; Echo’s assignment outfit in “Echoes” on Dollhouse; Spinelli’s two-colored hooded sweater on General Hospital; Sharon Abbott’s hair on The Young & the Restless; Spencer’s beard on The Hills; Mindy’s wedding dress on Friday Night Lights; Howard’s entire wardrobe on The Big Bang Theory; Jack’s ’70s-era moptop on Lost; Paula’s big red Christmas bow on American Idol; Locke’s flashback hair on Lost; Echo’s white trash outfit in “Omega” on Dollhouse; Ben’s entire look in his 1988 flashback on Lost; Allison Iraheta’s entire look on American Idol; Vanessa’s lime-green leggings on Gossip Girl; and Kenley’s fascinators on Project Runway.

That’s quite the competition. The winner will be determined by readers’ votes and you can vote for Tyra (or save her from Worst Fashion fate) here.

Tyra’s not the only ANTMer who snagged a nomination. Half the cast from Cycle 12 of America’s Next Top Model are duking it out in the “Best Smackdown (Reality)” program. The catfight between Aminat, Tahlia, and Teyona vs. Celia, Natalie and Allison is up against
CT and Adam from RW/RR Challenge: The Duel 2; Evelyn rips into ruling alliance, grabs John’s key from RW/RR Challege: The Island; Jesse Ventura and Elizabeth Hasselbeck on The View; Jon Stewart vs. Jim Cramer on The Daily Show; Kara vs. Bikini Girl on the season finale of American Idol; Norma vs. Daniella on The Fashion Show;
Randy has fake immunity idol, talks trash, gets voted out, Crystal screams out reasons why on Survivor; Ryan Seacrest hands Danny Gokey a $6K cleaning bill on American Idol; Stephen Colbert v. Michael Steele rap-battle on The Colbert Report; William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu on Deadliest Warrior; and Zbigniew Brzezinski calls Joe Scarborough “stunningly superficial” on Morning Joe.

If you want to see Aminat, Tahlia, Teyona, Celia, Natalie and Allison take home the prize, you can vote for them here.

Tyra Banks Talks About ANTM Cycle 13

June 25, 2009 by Erin Balser

Tyra Banks talked to CW’s the Source about the upcoming cycle of America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 13. It’s the first-eer cycle for short models (5′7″ and under) and will premiere on the CW on September 9th!

In the video below, Tyra talks about how short the girls are, how strong the competition is this time, and who the guest judges are. It’s amazing - Kim Kardashian, Lauren Conrad, Cheryl Tiegs and more!

What do you think of this very un-fashion approach to ANTM? Short girls, reality television stars - it sounds as thought Tyra has truly embraced what Top Model has become. That or she’s delusional. What do you think?

Tyra Banks Stalker Sentenced to One-Year Probation

June 18, 2009 by Erin Balser

Tyra BanksTyra Banks’s stalker, Brady Green, was sentenced to a one-year probation today. Neither Green nor his lawyer spoke during the sentencing, hich comes one month after he was found guilty of stalking Tyra.

Green was also ordered to stay away from Tyra for two years and to take an anti-stalking course.

The sentencing must come as a relief to Tyra, who says she felt terrified during the ordeal. She felt for the safety of her family and her staffers.

“My life has changed significantly, even the people who know me,” she said when she took the stand. “I don’t live that sheltered life. I like to walk around my neighborhood. I run outside. I like to go to the movies by myself, eat meals by myself. My company hired security. When I’m at the movies, in a restaurant, they are there with me.”

That being said, the sentence must feel pretty light considering how scary the whole thing was.

What do you think? Was Green’s sentence fair?

Tyra Banks is a Blogger

May 29, 2009 by Erin Balser

Tyra Banks has decided to join the rest of us in the blogosphere and launched her own blog. Titled “Tyra Talks” the blog will explore different interests of Tyra and show us different events she attends. It launched April 30th and so far she’s covered the CW UpFronts, her favorite new song, and the White House Correspondents dinner.

Tyra Banks Teyona Anderson

Tyra is trying very hard to inject the same personality she presents on her talk show into these posts. I personally find the writing style a bit annoying, but Tyra’s new to this so I’ll cut her some slack. And I have to give her kudos trying this out.

Ae you going to read Tyra’s blog?

Tyra Banks & Teyona Anderson at the CW Upfronts

May 21, 2009 by Erin Balser

The CW UpFronts took place earlier today in New York City. The UpFronts are when networks announce their upcoming fall line-up. America’s Next Top Model will return to Wednesdays at 8pm and is being paired with the new drama A Beautiful Life. A Beautiful Life should be a great match for ANTM, as it’s a fictional show about models living in New York City. It stars The OC alum Mischa Barton, supermodel Elle MacPherson and Sara Paxton. If you recall, it’s the show Analeigh Tipton from Cycle 11 was nearly signed for.

I must say, I love Tyra’s new hair color. It’s one of the best looks she’s had in a long time. And Teyona looks really cute.

Are you going to tune in for Cycle 13 of America’s Next Top Model? And are you excited to see A Beautiful Life?

The Tyra Banks Show Nominated for an Emmy

May 16, 2009 by Erin Balser

The Daytime Emmy Awards nominees were announced this Thursday and Tyra Banks’s talk show, The Tyra Banks Show is again nominated for “Outstanding Talk Show (Informative).

Last year, The Tyra Banks Show took home this honor.

This year, Tyra is up against The Doctors and Dr. Phil. I think Tyra’s got a good shot at taking home the trophy for the second time in a row.

Dr. Phil doesn’t stand a chance, but the new show The Doctors has received both critical and commercial acclaim. Couple that with how popular health issues are today and you could be looking at a surprise winner.

You can see the rest of the categories and nominees here.

The Daytime Emmys will be broadcast on August 30th at 8pm on the CW.

Tahlia Brookins is Pregnant!

May 13, 2009 by Erin Balser

Today on The Tyra Banks Show, there was an America’s Next Top Model reunion. One contestant in particular had a pretty big secret to spill - she’s pregnant! The happy mom-to-be was none other than 18-year-old Tahlia Brookins.

“I was told multiple times over and over that I couldn’t get pregnant just from my scars holding me back, other physical things going on with my body,” Tahlia said. “I was always told I was never going to be able to conceive children.”

Tahlia is no longer with the father of her child, 18-year-old David Michaels Jr., but the twosome are determined to make their family work. They have support from both their families and feel that they are ready and excited to be parents.

You can watch Tahlia’s big reveal below!

I’m really torn about this. It’s wonderful Tahlia has learned she is able to have children despite all odds, but she’s so young! Why is she ready to take on such a responsibility? What do you think of Tahlia’s announcement?
