Caridee English & Pretty Wicked News

April 1, 2009 by Erin Balser

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 7 winner Caridee English had her new show Pretty Wicked premiere last night on Oxygen. Did you watch it? I PVRed it and will tune in later this week - so expect a recap soon!

In order to promote the show, Caridee has been doing interviews like crazy. She talked to the Chicago Tribune about how her life has changed since winning ANTM. She gives us a verbal tour of her home in Los Angeles and talks about how different LA is from Fargo, North Dakota.

Caridee chatted with After Elton about Pretty Wicked ad her new campaign for Christian Siriano. She encouraged After Elton’s readers to watch the show, saying its for anyone who has “a love and passion for a girl who makes your jaw drop. And we have ten girls on this show who will make your jaw drop over … and over … and over. You just can’t believe that these girls think that the way they’re living life is actually okay, and the change that they go through is so profound.”

She chatted with A Blog About Things about what it was like to be on the other side of the camera and the judging panel.

Finally, Variety got an early screener of the show - and was not impressed. They called it a “low-rent low-wattage knock-off” of Tyra’s similarly themed show True Beauty and said that Caridee “doesn’t exactly convey inner beauty expertise either. If anything, she represents the vapid, carnivorous nature of reality TV, proving that one show’s winner is another’s loser.”

It can’t be that bad, can it?

Caridee English is a Poker Player

March 1, 2009 by Erin Balser

Caridee English, winner of Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model, was one of several celebrities who took in the Seventh Annual World Poker Invitational at the Commerca Casino in Los Angeles on February 28th. The event is one of the largest in the poker world and attracts celebrities and huge poker players alike.

This year’s event was hosted by former ER star Mekhi Phifer. In attendance were Ricki Lake, Benji Madden, Daniel Baldwin, Chris and Danny Masterson, Mad Men star Jon Hamm, Nicky Hilton and more. These celebrities try their hand at taking on the poker pros at their own game, often to detrimental results.

7th Annual World Poker Tour Invitational

I have no idea how Caridee did. She did win with this new haircut and cropped leather jacket, though. Caridee is always much better at pulling off the casual look and I think this one is a winner.

Caridee’s new show Pretty Wicked premieres March 31 on Oxygen. It sounds a lot like recent reality shows in development - Bad Girls, Charm School, True Beauty, even another ANTMer, Yoanna House’s Queen Bees, and more, but I think I’ll tune in just to see what Caridee is like as a host!

CariDee English at Richie Rich Fashion Show

February 19, 2009 by Erin Balser

Caridee English, winner of Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model, was one of several ANTMers to get a gig during New York Fashion Week. The complete list - with photos! - will be part of this week’s Top Model Round-Up.

Richie Rich - Runway - Fall 09 MBFW

The Richie Rich show took place on February 18 at Waldorf Astoria. Richie, who also produces the Heatherette collections, is known for his over-the-top shows tat often feature celebrities and socialites like Paris Hilton and Tinsley Mortimer.

Caridee only wore one look in the show. I like the hair, but think she looks pretty old, don’t you?

Caridee English at Alexander McQueen for Target Launch

February 15, 2009 by Erin Balser

Designer Alexander McQueen is designing a budget line exclusively for target called McQ. The line is going to be in stores in a few weeks and February 13 was the official launch party! Target is even opening a special and temporary Target McQ Market at the St. John’s Center on the Westside Highway for the collection.

Caridee English, winner of Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model, was one of several celebrities who came out to celebrate and see a sneak peek of the line. Other attendees included Erin Lucas and Whitney Port from The City, Amanda Bynes, Jessica Simpson and more.

I’m really excited to see the McQ line. I love Alexander McQueen and think his clothes are inventive, gorgeous - and completely unaffordable! it will be nice to own something by the designer, even if it’s from Target.

The official launch party for the collection was held at the St. John’s Center.

I think Caridee looks cute. She’s been hitting up a lot of events recently, probably to drum up interest for her new reality show Pretty Wicked.

Caridee English and Jaslene Gonzalez Celebrate What is Sexy

February 12, 2009 by Erin Balser

Former America’s Next Top Model winners Caridee English (Cycle 7) and Jaslene Gonzalez (Cycle 8) were two of the many stars who came out to the Victoria’s Secret “What Is Sexy?” celebration at the Bowery Hotel in NYC last night.

The “What is Sexy” celebration listed the sexiest celebrities, body parts, style, television shows and more from 2009. This is the fourth year for the list and this year’s theme was “the return to romance”, which honored the new Vintage Victoria line of lingerie. The list paid tribute to stars’ lasting appeal and timeless beauty. Victoria Angels Adriana Lima and Doutzen Kroes hosted the event, which saw celebs like The City star Erin Lucas, Bridgette Nielsen, Brandon Davis, and Robert Buckley come out for the night.

Winners included Angelina Jolie for “Sexiest Lips Present”, Tiny Fey for “Sexiest Funny Girl Present”, Gossip Girl for “Sexiest TV Cast Present”, Frank Sinatra for “Sexiest Eyes Past” and more. You can see a complete list of winners here.

Caridee showed off a sassy new haircut. I think it makes her look younger and is much fresher than her long hair, but she needs to lay off the tanning bed. The outfit could be cute, but it just seems off.

Jaslene hits another red carpet home run with an understated shirtdress and minimal accesories and make-up. She’s amped up the red carpet game, which is nice to see. So many of her past outfits were complete misses.

Who do you think rocked the red carpet better? Or did both girls come out looking like winners?

CariDee English to Host New Reality Series Pretty Wicked

February 11, 2009 by Erin Balser

CariDee English, the winner of Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model, has finally revealed her “top secret reality television project.” The result? Pretty Wicked on Oxygen. The show will pit ten divas who use their looks to get ahead in life in devious ways - to get into clubs, upgrade their boyfriends, get out of traffic tickets and more - to see who is the most beautiful on the inside.

Wow, this show sounds familiar. Isn’t it called True Beauty and executive produced by ANTM creator Tyra Banks?

The divas will confront their evil ways in a series of challenges that will “beautify” them, including getting “made older,” impressing hot guys who just happen to be blind and more.

The girl who is deemed the most beautiful on the inside and out will win a grand prize of $50,000.

Pretty Wicked is the first competitive reality show from Oxygen’s new team.

CariDee will be joined on the judging panel by plus-sized model Mia Tyler, Dr. Jenn Berman, psychotherapist and talk show host and Kyle Cease, comedian and author best known for his work on Not Another Teen Movie.

“‘Pretty Wicked’ truly is the ultimate inner-makeover competition show,” said Amy Introcaso-Davis, VP of Original Programming and Development at Oxygen. ” Viewers will see these spirited, independent women transform into more self-aware and ultimately, nicer girls.”

While this sounds freakishly like Tyra’s new show True Beauty, I’m expecting it to be in the tradition of the trashier reality genre and should be equal parts horrfiying and wonderful to watch.

Pretty Wicked premieres March 31 At 10 PM ET/PT. Are you going to tune in?

CariDee English’s Spring Style

February 11, 2009 by Erin Balser

CariDee English, winner of Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model, was one of several stars to walk the red carpet for the celebration of JCPenney’s Spring Style launch. The showcase was held at the eSpace in New York City last night.

Other stars who came out for the event included Minka Kelly, first season ANTM judge Kimora Lee Simmons, and designers Charlotte Ronson and Nicole Miller.

The event launched JCPenney’s “fashion-forward” makeover as it will now carry lines like Fabulousity by Kimora, Nicole Miller’s nicole, Bisou Bisou by Michele Bohbot, ALLEN B. by Allen Schwartz and Heart Ronson by Charlotte Ronson. JCPenney is hoping the upscale shift will revamp the store and it’s image.

I must say I like CariDee’s dress quite a bit. It’s way too long, but the color is great on her and it’s a modern take on the flowing Grecian column dresses. Especially considering the red-carpet fashion disasters in CariDee’s past, this one’s a winner.

ANTM Obsessed Exclusive Interviews With Fan Favorites

February 1, 2009 by Erin Balser

Today, Oxygen marathoned Cycle 10 of America’s Next Top Model as part of their America’s Next Top Model: Obsessed. As promised, they aired exclusive interviews with “fan favorite” former ANTMers to find out what they are up to now and what they’re currently obsessed with. The apparent fan favorites? Lisa D’Amato (Cycle 5), Caridee English (Cycle 7) and Bianca Golden (Cycle 9).

Bianca talks about how people thought she was putting on a role, but promises fans that what you saw in Cycle 9 was the real deal. She talks about how quickly the show moved from being exciting to stressful and difficult and that affects your relationships in the house, your performance and more.

I really wish Bianca had kept her short cut. The long hair is nice, but it doesn’t look “model” to me.

Lisa chats about how ANTM changed her life. She feels the show represented her in a one-dimensional party-animal light. That’s affected her career prospects, but it’s also opened a lot of doors. She’s currently focusing on her rap career and is performing constantly at the Viper Room. If you’re her Facebook friend, she’ll invite you to all of them.

Caridee talks about how she wanted to be on ANTM forever because she knew she’d use the opportunity better than anyone else who has been on the show. She doesn’t regret anything she did or said on the show–good or bad–because the experience is what it is. She loved the experience and everything that’s come from it.

I think these girls were chosen less so for their favorite-ness and moreso for have somewhat of a career since ANTM and are still willing to be associated with the Top Model brand. I’d love to see them talk to girls who are off doing really interesting things and are actually having modeling careers (as opposed to entertainment careers) or chat with girls who have completely fallen off the map!

CariDee English Protects Seals

December 9, 2008 by Erin Balser

CariDee English was one of several famous faces to lend themselves to the Protect the Seals campaign, a project sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States. The project is looking to get the seal hunt in Canada eliminated, in order to protect baby seals from being slayed by hunters. Over one million seals have been killed in the past four years.

Other celebs in the video include Jessica Szohr, Kate Flannery, Katrina Bowden, Gracie Mercedes, Damien Fahey, Susie Castillo and the New Kids on the Block. In the video below, these celebs “rap” about why we need to end the seal hunt.

You can learn more about the project and it’s current activities at Do Something.

CariDee isn’t the first ANTMer to get involved in this campaign. Saving seals is something that Nigel Barker and Whitney Thompson feel passionate about as well.
