AusNTM 5.09 “London’s Calling” Recap

June 23, 2009 by Erin Balser

Last week on Australia’s Next Top Model, the girls filmed a commercial and portrayed style icons from different decades. It was a lackluster episode overall and we saw Franky go home. Will the international trip to London amp up the drama? See for yourself below!

Full recap below the jump!

Original Air Date:June 23, 2009
Challenge : paparazzi photos
Challenge winner: Adele
Photo: London sights
Guest judge: Alice Burdeu and Jonathan Pease
Called first: Clare
Eliminated: Adele

The girls are off to London, so we get lots of montages of them leaving, of them stopping over in Dubai and of them arriving in London. After seeing their swanky apartment and getting a good night’s sleep, Sarah’s pal Gerry takes them on a shopping tour of London – High Street and TopShop, then some higher end brands, then Selfridges, where – surprise, surprise! – Elle MacPherson is there to greet them! Elle feeds them stuff about how they are beautiful and need to be grounded and supported and what not. I had no idea she was this New Age-y! It’s not a bad thing, it’s just surprising.

Adele wins the paparazzi challenge and chooses to take Cassi because she hasn’t won a challenge yet. Cassi is really surprised and touched and her reaction is quite sweet. Cassi could warm to me yet!

The next day, the girls have go sees at Storm and Premiere. At Storm, the managing director had nice things to say about everyone. At Premiere, they’re a bit meaner about Tahnee’s measurements, Adele’s height and Cassi’s walk.

The photo shoot is high fashion meets London sights. Gerry was impressed by everyone. All the girls looked great, but it was clearly Adele who struggled the most. They return to Australia and Alice Burdeu is the guest judge! This makes me extremely happy, I’m so excited to see what she’s like on the other side of the judging panel!

The judges, with the exception of Sarah, all hate Clare’s photo, think Adele looks cheap, think Cassi looks bored, and think that while Tahnee’s photo is the best of the bunch, it isn’t that great. After a tough deliberation, Clare’s complete package puts her on top and Adele’s one look sends her home. I’m disappointed because I liked Adele, but I’m not surprised. It was Adele’s time to go.

    oh puh-lease.
ADELE’s picture was 100 times better than CASSI’s.
CASSI’s picture looked like something was stucked in her ass.
she just didn’t look comfortable one bit.

I just knew when Sarah called Clare first that Cassi would be next. I get that they see potential in Cassi and that’s fine but if she wins this it’s not going to be because she’s grown so much but her potential. She needs a lot of work on her attitude, her walk and those teeth. I was so glad the modeling agent noted her excuses as well. I find it annoying that she’s supposedly been persuaded twice by Sarah and the modeling agency to not bail. It’s also frightening that Alex Perry seems to be the only one with sense. He said the same thing the two agencies said as well about Tahnee’s ability to work being limited at her current size. I know Sarah is on some sort of quest but she’s naive to think that any agency isn’t going to tell Tahnee to lose weight if she expects to do more than commercial or possibly plus work. Tahnee should have gone instead of Adele. Clare will probably go next and it’ll be Cassi and Tahnee in the final two. Clare will work though but the finale is still going to be anti-climatic.
