ANTM Interview with Katarzyna Dolinska

Yesterday, I had the chance to speak with Katarzyna during a conference call. She was so sweet! I’m really disappointed she’s no longer on the show.

Tell us how you got involved in Top Model.

I got involved because after college I started to work for 2 months and Top Model was having auditions in NYC I wanted to try but was so responsible and was so busy and never had a chance to try modeling. This time worked our so I tried out and made it into the house.

Does your name have a special meaning or significance?

Nope. It’s a very common polish name and that’s pretty much it.

What was your favorite experience in Rome?

I really enjoyed the Covergirl commercial so strange to speak Italian none of us spoke Italian it was something I had never done before. None of us had any idea what the hell we were saying and it was a lot of fun to see the finished commercials in panel it was hilarious and so funny.

Why did you think you could be America’s next top model?

All the girls on the show are tall and have good bodies and are pretty and are pretty in many different ways. But I think what I have is the
Eastern European look which is very now, very pale and very European. I fit into that high fashion look that’s very in right now. I also love doing runway I love being on the catwalk.

What was the best advice you received on the show?

At the Elite agency with Paulina and she was telling us what was wrong with us and she told me I had a squishy face I learned if I kept my
mouth open during photo shoots my face looked longer and that was helpful.

Do you have any advice to future contestants on the show?

I think that the thing with panel is that every single time you go in you never know what is going to happen, one time they might tell you something and the next time it wont work for the net photo shoot. You need to think about what you are trying to portray and not what the judges told you before you need to be confident in yourself and know you can do it and you will connect with photographer and with the camera.

How did you feel when the judges told you they felt you were coasting?

I was like nuh uh I don’t think so so. they said it because I guess I look like what they would expect, a girl, trying to be a model I didn’t think it had anything to do with me or how hard I tired. It was just misconception they had about be, but I really tried.

It was just a misconception about personality. In Cycle 9, Victoria, who was also from the Ivy League, spoke back to the judges and that’s what got her eliminated. I decided I didn’t want to do that. I knew from past experience they didn’t like it when girls speak back and I didn’t want to play into the assumption that girls from an Ivy League background are snobbish. I wanted Ed to show them that I could take criticism and I wasn’t above and and that I appreciated it and they took it to mean I didn’t have personality.

When you’re in panel they are firing at you and at everything they see, it makes you so vulnerable. And what can you say to them other than than you and show you appreciate their help?

I got the boring edit on the show. but I think I’m fun and I can have fun. I definitely have a personality but that’s the edit I got and I think that models overall, you don’t get to hear them speak to often but models do needs a special something. I think I have that especially in those who I meet.

Why were you never involved in the house drama?

I stayed out of it to keep focused on the competition. you had to do so much all the time I didn’t want to lose my energy I didn’t want to fight with people to fight for the sake of fighting. It’s difficult to shoe your personality when you are there to be evaluated its just the nature of the show. I think some of the girls who are a little more actressy and a little more animated came across as stronger in panel.

Which girls did you bond with?

Marvita, Amis, Claire, Lauren, Dominique, Anya. I definitely did bond with some of the girls. All the girls were great.

Were you intimated when shooting with Tyra?

Oh god yes. I mean Tyra is the person you need to impress the most. She is the main judge at panel you know she is judging you at everything you do.

How did you feel about your two makeovers? Did you prefer one over the other?

I miss my old long hair. My makeover was okay. Ever since I was a little girl I always had long hair so getting it cut off was really hard. I might keep the color but I’m definitely waiting for it to grow back.

What are you doing now?

I didn’t go back to my old job. After being on the show at doing everything I did I couldn’t sit at the desk 24/7. I went to Paris for a little bit. My boyfriend is from Paris and it was nice to see him. I hardly spoke to him the entire time I was on the show. I’ve been doing a little bit of pr jobs and just waiting to get off the show and pursue a career. I want to do high fashion,. I think all models want to do that when they start out, I love the creativity that designers come up with and I want to be a part of that.

Which girls you didn’t bond with?

My least favorites were Whitney and Fatima. I didn’t get along with them and out personalities didn’t match I thought they were very closed and little bit ignorant.

Who would like to see win?

Anya. I think that she’s peoples favorite right now. She has a natural talent and she’s a very sweet girl.

What would you like to say to your fans?

Getting the Covergirl of the Week was amazing. I just want to thank people for their support. It’s so sweet. I just appreciate the fact that people were rooting for me and they cared even though I wasn’t on the show that much and got a pretty boring edit.

Do you think your Ivy League education helped you on the show or did anything to combat the dumb model stereotype?

I don’t know, I got the educated but boring edit. the cards fall where they do you cant blame the edits. They do that because they have to, but I don’t think my education helped me or hurt me, it just was.

What were your favorite and least favorite photo shoots?

My favorite was the—lingerie with Elle Macpherson because she’s Elle Macpherson and she’s amazing and the second one was the music photo shoot, it was cool to see myself differently more of a girly girl and just to be dressed up ion the Emo girl was a lot of fun.

My least favorite was the meat one. The meat was frozen and it was starting to melt and there was blood dripping down and it was pretty gross.
