ANTM 13.08 “Interview 101″ Commercials

October 22, 2009 by Erin Balser

Last night on America’s ext Top Model, the girls did a CoverGirl commercial instead of a photo shoot. The commercial focused on CoverGirls’ eyelights line. Each girl had to write and memorize their own script.

Jennifer may have got the first call-out, but I think Nicole’s commercial was the best. Why did Jen toss her head back and forth like that?

Which commercial was your favorite?

i don’t know why but i lost the love for brittany, and at the same time, i gained the love for laura.

i like nicole since day one, and she just proved to the judges that she can be all contortionist AND also relate-able and commercial.

I agree about the head thing with Jennifer, however I do thing she was the most personable on camera, and I believe she got first call out because she brought her personality to the commercial, while Nicole brought personality but not necessarily her own. I love Jennifer!

I also preferred Nicole’s commercial even if it wasn’t her (whatever Tyra). Jennifer and her head swinging annoyed me. In the past, Tyra would have mentioned it and made fun of the girl for doing it. She let Jennifer slide. But seing as Jennifer is an actress was anyone really surprised she did well? Also I wonder if the commercial had been edited would the call-out have been different? I can’t see Sundai surviving if that had been the case (she shouldn’t have anyway but there really wouldn’t have been excuse). As for Brittany being robotic, it wasn’t that robotic. We’ve seen worse commercial efforts on this show over the cycles. I liked Laura’s script best especially the part about being from a city or small town. If she hadn’t been so flustered it would have been a nice commercial (of course, if it had been edited, it would have been better).

I was completely caught off guard by Jennifers performance…in a good way. She completely deserved this win. It seemed polished to me..probably one of the best Covergirl adds I’ve seen out of all seasons. With that said, Milkyaqua totally called it: I was expecting Tyra to kinda’ critique Jennifers bobble head action but perhaps it was so good it was forgiven. And Nicoles’ was surprising, as well. Good for her. If her personality keeps on that track it’s going, she may very well bag this season.
As for the rest. I don’t mean to sound like a broken record but I’m not getting this whole bleached eyebrow business. I can tolerate it on Rae, but Erin looks SO washed out with that look and during her “diary room” takes..well, she just looks physically ill. The ONLY way to rock that look is with tons of make-up on…I don’t think it’s commercial, AT ALL. High fashion…maybe…but only if you have a good makeup artist.
Sundai? I dunno’. Too Walmart cashier for me and I think it’s the hair. I recall her before hair and she looked real good. She hasn’t stood out for me in this cycle so I’m ready to see her go.
Britney. Wow. Completely gorgeous but that damn dark hair aged her about 15 years. She’s really having to work to produce some good shots so I’ll give her credit for that. It’s unfortunate that she got that color.
I think this is going to get down to Britney and Nicole for the top two. Erin coming in 3rd.

RAE SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED!! SUNDAI SHOULD HAVE!! SHE NEEDS TO GO ASAP!!

I just think that Nicole’s commercial was the best But it was fake because it wasnt her personality.. shes more dull and boring. and jennifer was good but her head shit got me annoyed lol

It’s a commercial. I pretty much assume that anyone in a commercial is acting. It’s like asking me to believe that Beyonce and Eva Longoria use Loreal hair color. It’s not real. So Nicole being “fake” in a commercial is no big deal. It’s acting. Tyra has her own agenda in the comments she makes. The fact that she felt the need to point out Nicole’s fake persona in a commercial while not addressing Jennifer’s head tossing or eliminating Rae instead of Sundai should make that clear.

  8. Hung (subscribed) says:

^ well you would want to be relatable to a covergirl or model.. so you have to be real… when Whitney was being fake in cycle 10 Tyra called her out….. Jennifer’s head tossing was not a big of a deal… seriously if you think about it and Sundai and Erin shoulda been in the bottom two.. because Erin’s cocky ass deserve to go home

  9. milkyaqua says:

Eh, Tyra wanted Whitney to win. Nicole is not winning so there’s that. Sundai and Erin should have been in the bottom two with Sundai going home. Erin’s portfolio and call-out average is better/higher than Sundai’s, she looks like a model and serves the b@tch role; it’s called redemption arc. And even though ANTM has nothing to do with modeling, Sundai’s got the least chance of any of the girls of finding any post-show work. She’ll be lucky to be a parts model or do the kind of modeling work Eva did which involved a lot of semi-nude/nude work. And once again, Jennifer is an actress (as has been stated before the show) so of course her commercial was good. But while overall it was good, it still felt odd that Tyra didn’t call her out on the horse head motion because in past cycles she’s made fun of girls for doing over-the-top stuff like that. I didn’t care that she got the FCO, I just wanted Tyra to be consistent but it’s Tyra so that wasn’t going to happen especially to a girl who could possibly be in the final three (unfortunately).

Aqua is making some good points but I’ll have to agree that ANTM has everything to do with the modeling industry. Not every agency is alike and we could easily consider this the ANTM academy. True, some winners have yet to grace worldwide covers but we can’t dismiss their careers all together. It’s nice to see the producers running clips of “where are they now” on each episode…I think the last one was FO from last season and I’m certain these ladies have links on the web if we take the time to find them.
One thing I’ve noticed, thus far in this season, is that that the eliminations for THIS episode are pretty consistant with what the viewers are seeing. Unlike last episode, the best ones were booted for reasons we never got to see…how Teyona won over Allison was beyond me. And while I think Sundai and Erin were worse than Rae, Erin possesses a drive that the other two don’t (didn’t) have. But my question, then, is how much of the dorm-life doesn’t editing make available to Tyra to see. I would imagine Tyra isn’t sitting in a control room watching so any personality that she gets hold of is only during a photo shoot, word of mouth or voting panel.
