America’s Next Top Model Episode 902 “The Girls Go Green” Recap

ANTM Cycle 9 Episode 2 “The Girls Go Green” recap:
It seems this season and especially this episode of America’s Next Top Model is all about going green. The show starts off with Mr. J showing the girls their pimped out green and environmentally friendly bus for the season. It has recycled tire rubbed seats and green grass all over.
The green bus takes the ladies to their green house. Their are pictures of Tyra and Jaslene everywhere. The coolest part is their runway lined with plants. The girls excitedly jump into the pool and run around checking everything out.
When not bickering the girls are picking on Heather for her antisocial behavior. They know it’s because she has a disability but that doesn’t stop them from saying really horrible things about her behind her back. They’re SO mean!
The next morning Miss J tells the girls that they need to learn about style. He gives them some hints and then sends them off to Old Navy to choose outfits for their first challenge.
When they get to Old Navy Benny Ninja is waiting for them. To be honest I’m not sure why Benny’s there. He does actually judge them and just gives them strange advice. Anyway he tells them they have 10 minutes to choose an outfit and that they will wear it to panel later and be judged by Tyra and the gang.
At panel the judges first looked at the girl’s Old Navy threads and then at their smoking pictures. Here’s what they had to say:
Chatal
Old Navy:
Nigel thinks she has too many accessories.
Smoking side effect is tracheotomy:
Twiggy likes her eyes, but thinks that it’s almost bedroom eyes and she has to watch it.
Jenah
Old Navy:
Her top is too big
Smoking side effect is chemotherapy for cancer:
Tyra thinks that the picture is great. It makes her uncomfortable which is important. Jenah admits that she was a smoker but decided to quit because of her experience in the photo shoot.
Ambreal
Old Navy:
Tyra doesn’t like her earrings.
Smoking side effect is Lung Cancer: Tyra loves her glamor picture but doesn’t see a model in real life. In her gross shot Miss Jay says she did a great job looking ill.
Victoria
Old Navy: The judges like her lack of jewelry.
Smoking side effect is having a stillborn child: The judges think she looks great in her pictures but insecure in person and she needs to work on charm.
Lisa
Old Navy: Tyra tells her to take off her earrings.
Smoking side effect is a face tumor: Twiggy thinks her legs and pose are saucy. Nigel thinks it has all the the aspects you want in a picture. Tyra thinks she looks like Shalom Harlow in her picture.
Mila
Old Navy: Thinks it’s a lovely dress but not on her.
Smoking side effect is losing hair because of chemotherapy: Miss jay thinks it looks like she just farted. Nigel thinks her eyes are unfocused. Tyra and Nigel are irked by how she was laughing during the smoking side effect shoot.
Sarah
Old Navy: They don’t like her necklace.
Smoking side effect is premature aging: They love her pictures and her down turned smile.
Bianca
Old Navy: Tyra loves her outfit minus her purple hair. (Let me guess, when they do makeovers her hair color is going to change?)
Smoking side effect is severe gingivitis: Twiggy says camera loves her but there’s not enough life in her eyes. Nigel thinks it looks too posed. They liked her gross picture better.
Janet
Old Navy: Tyra thought her necklace made her neck look short.
Smoking side effect is burn victim: Twiggy loves her jaw bone. Tyra loves her gross picture.
Ebony
Old Navy: They love her outfit.
Smoking side effect is a collapsed lung: Think she looks very uncomfortable and stiff in her pretty picture but did a great job in her tragic shot. Tyra brings up that Mr. Jay said she feels insecure that the other girls don’t like her. Nigel says that she should just be herself.
Kimberly
Old Navy: Tyra thinks she looks great but her hair looks a little weird. They tell her to tie it up.
Cancer side effect sunken face: Tyra says she needs to watch her hoochieness. They think she looks great.
Saleisha
Old Navy: They all think she looks great
Cancer side effect second hand smoke: Twiggy loves the picture
Heather
Old Navy: Needs more confidence and to stand up straight. The layered shirt is too much.
Cancer side effect second hand smoke: Miss J and everyone else love her picture but in real life she’s not showing it.
Saleisha wins the challenge gets $1000 shopping spree and an ad for Old Navy.
The girls are sent out so the judges can deliberate. When they come back Tyra announces that this is going to be a no smoking cycle of ANTM. This is awesome! I’m really happy they decided to do this because I’ve always noticed the smoking in the episodes. Also having the gals on the patch and irritated from their cravings for cigarettes will be fun to watch!

I loved it! How bold of Tyra to say that this was a non-smoking season. I’m also glad that Mila left. She had no real vulnerability, and was always happy, and somewhat fake. I HATED that she was laughing while showing her ‘effected’ picture. That was wrong.
I thought this episode was in poor taste. I totally get the concept of making a non-smoking statement and getting the point accross, but as a parent of a stillborn son and the sister of a cancer survivor, the physical images on ANTM, were disturbing and I wondered what was fashionable about the second portion of this photo shoot. I wonder where Tyra’s sensitivity (hmmm…and she’s a talk show host?) to victims and their families lay…tsk, tsk…all in the name of a good photo?!

I thought it was so funny that they are “green” and the whole house is lit up. Is that “green” electricity they are using?
